ThewalkthroughforThe Last of Us' fifth chapter, Pittsburgh, will take you from one side of the city to the other, giving you all the tips and tricks needed to fend off bandits while finding plenty of hidden treasures along the way.

In this chapter, we'll come across seventeen Artifacts, three Firefly Pendants, four Training Manuals, four Comics and eleven Optional Conversations. You can check out full lists of each secret over on our Collectibles page.

Pittsburgh is the longest chapter in the game. If you're looking for a specific segment of it, search through the links below:

Alone and Forsaken

The chapter will begin with a bit of a rough start for our two protagonists, as their car is rammed off the road and they're attacked by a group of bandits. You may not realise, but we'll regain control midway through this cutscene.

As the bandit grabs Joel, drags him out of the car and begins to forceably shove his head towards a particularly sharp shard of glass, you'll have to mash SQUARE to escape. If you're successful, you'll kill your assailant, regaining control just as you see Ellie being attacked by a bandit.

Run towards the bandit and hit him with a melee attack. It'll cue another cutscene, as Joel grabs his and Ellie's backpacks just as a second wave of bandits attack. We'll now regain control fully, with the goal of finishing off the group of bandits.

This encounter can be awkward, as the shop has a lot of entry points and opportunities for foes to flank Ellie and Joel. For the most part, the counter on the right-hand side of the store provides a lot of opportunities to hide from enemies, so use it if you need to heal or get your bearings.

The listening mode is your best friend here too. Use it to keep track of the bandits and pick them off one by one. Some will try and cut you off using the alley at the side of the building; others will hide behind the shelves and then rush you with melee weapons. Divide and conquer and you'll get the job done in no time.

advertisem*nt

Once it's done, scavenge the area for resources. There's lots of good loot to be found throughout the store.

Artifact 29: Siphon Hose

Now you've got a second to check your bag, you'll notice two new collectibles have been added to your inventory.

The first is the Siphon Hose. If you remember, this was given to Joel by Bill during their final encounter in Bill's Town.

Comic 1: Force Carrier

Another item that magically appeared in our collectible stack is the comic book Ellie was reading on the car ride to Pittsburgh.

It's called the Force Carrier and has started a new section of our collectible list for comic books. We'll want to watch out for more of these going forward.

advertisem*nt

When you've checked out both new items, leave the store and head to the garage on the opposite side of the road. We need to head beneath the shutter on the left, but first loot the office on the right. Look through the drawers and locker to find blades, rifle ammo and a decent amount of scrap.

Once you've filled your pockets, head to the shutter and interact with it. A short scene will commence. Once you regain control you'll find yourself in a grotesque garage-turned-morgue. There's a bunch of bodies scattered over the tables, hinting this could've been Ellie and Joel if they'd believed the bandit pretending to be injured.

Optional Conversation 14: The Hunters' Prey

Shortly after we regain control, Joel and Ellie's conversation will lead to an Optional Conversation prompt appearing above Ellie's head.

She'll talk to Joel about the bodies on the tables, with Joel telling Ellie this could have been them if they weren't as careful.

Tools Level 2

There are a few key items to grab while we're in the garage, one of which being the next level of Tools. You can find them in the tool box next to the shutter.

advertisem*nt

Open it up to find a rasp. This means we can boost our weapons up to the next level at a workbench.

Artifact 30: Tourists Manifest

Behind the right-hand table, you'll find a note on an over-turned cage. This is the Tourists Manifest and is our next artifact.

Pick it up, take a look at it and add it to our collection. Seems the Hunters were keeping note of all the loot they acquired after taking down their prey.

With the Optional Conversation, Artifact and new set of Tools acquired, it's time to loot the area. In the lockers to your right, you'll find revolver ammo and other resources. Meanwhile, the shelves on the left contain multiple resources and our first Smoke Bomb. Grab the smoke bomb and we'll learn the crafting recipe needed to make them.

Now, head through the door on your left and climb the stairs. At the top, you'll find a door leading to a hallway. Through the door on your right is a sleeping area. Head in here and loot the surrounding area. There's shotgun and revolver ammo in the lockers, as well as plenty of other resources.

advertisem*nt

Training Manual 2: Health Splinting

When you're done looting resources, you can grab our second Training Manual in this room. Look on the mattress in the centre of the sleeping area to find the Health: Splinting manual.

Acquiring it makes medkits 33% more efficient, meaning you recieve more health every time you use one.

Leave the bedroom and then take a right, entering the door at the end of the hallway. We don't want to go through the metal door leading to the roof outside just yet. When you enter the room at the end of the hallway, you'll find some more resources and a work bench. Upgrade your weapons however you see fit, utilising the new Tools we found earlier to make some more powerful additions.

Artifact 31: Ambush Map

After you're done with the workbench, look on the wall next to the door you entered through. You'll see a map stuck to the wall.

Interact with the map to grab it. Turns out, it's an Ambush Map showing how the hunters plan to take down survivors and loot them. Add that bad boy to our collection.

advertisem*nt

After you've grabbed the map, head out of the workbench room and onto the roof using the metall door to your right. Outside you'll see a fire with burning corpses and a set of stairs to your left. After Ellie comments on the fire, take the stairs.

At the top, Joel will point out the bridge out of Pittsburgh, telling Ellie that's where they're aiming to reach. Once the short conversation is over, vault the railing and drop down to the road below. Once you land, grab the supplements ahead and then take a right, pushing up the road.

Comic 2: Termination Shock

On your right as you're heading up the road, you should see an abandoned bus. Go inside and head towards the back of the bus.

On the floor, you'll find the Termination Shock comic, which appears to be a follow-up to the graphic novel Ellie was talking about in the car. It'll get added to the collection.

Optional Conversation 15: The Military's Handiwork

After grabbing the Termination Shock comic, loop around the bus and look for Ellie. She'll be standing in front of a car with a corpse hanging out of the door.

As you approach, an Optional Conversation prompt will appear above her head. She'll ask Joel what happened to the man and he'll theorise it was probably the military.

advertisem*nt

Once the conversation concludes, head left towards the Pittsburgh Military Zone entrance. As you get close, you'll hear a gunshot. Hide behind a nearby car and three hunters will appear. If you'd like, you can kill them, although they're a waste of ammo as they'll eventually walk away. Hide behind one of the cars to the left and let them walk down the road we just walked up.

Ellie's Jokes 01

This can be pretty difficult to trigger, but we have to do it before we cross the bus to the next area. Once the three Hunters are gone, stand to the left of the bus and wait for around a minute. Eventually, Ellie will crack out a joke book.

When the Optional Conversation prompt appears over her head, hit it to cue a lenghty round of awful jokes from Ellie. As mentioned before, this can take a good amount of time to trigger, but is crucial to achieving 100%, so wait until she decides to lighten the mood.

Once she's done, climb over the bus and drop to the other side. You'll find yourself outside a military checkpoint. On the right, you'll find a table with some scrap to loot. After taking it, don't go through the checkpoint. We have some collectibles to tick off.

Optional Conversation 16: Rations

Wait for Ellie to approach the graffiti on the wall next to the table with the scrap on it. After reading it out loud, an Optional Conversation prompt will appear.

advertisem*nt

Interact with it to talk with Ellie about the military's approach to rationing. It'll give you even more insight into the military's less-than-ideal treatment of survivors after the outbreak.

Artifact 32: Lost Hill Note

Hop the barricade near the rations graffiti and search the checkpoint booth. You'll find a notepad containing the Lost Hill Note.

Read it and then add it to your backpack.

Book Store Battle and Collectible Hunt

With the Optional Conversation and Artifact accounted for, head through the checkpoint and into the area ahead. This next section can be a fairly tricky combat encounter. We'll be heading through a bookshop that's absolutely loaded with hunters.

After entering the area, you'll hear three hunters talking ahead. Sneak up on them and wait for their conversation to conclude. Use your bow to take all three down silently, reclaiming any arrows you can after they're dead.

advertisem*nt

Now, turn your attention to the bookstore. On the ground floor, you'll find four Hunters, while a further four will patrol the landing above. Using the paths beneath the landing on the ground floor, wait for the hunters to finish their conversation and then pick them off while they're out of sight. If you're worried about one seeing you, use the bow to finish them off quietly.

With all four dead, scale the stairs close to where we entered. From here, use arrows to take the two guards closest to the stairs out. Once they're down, sneak around the landing and finish off the final pair of stragglers. Don't head out just yet though as this area is filled with goodies to grab. We're going to hunt down some precious collectibles, but make sure you're on the lookout for resources. You'll find plenty of arrows, crafting items, ammo and other useful bits and pieces.

Ellie's Jokes 02

Let's start on the bottom floor. Head to the northeast corner of the bookstore and find the kitchen. This is coincidentally the same room we'll find the Abandon Zone Note Artifact.

Wait around here for a few seconds and Ellie will crack out the joke book and begin her second stand-up routine. Get ready to hear some awe-inspiring jokes and hit TRIANGLE to initiate the interaction.

Artifact 33: Abandon Zone Note

In the same room as Ellie's second round of jokes (the kitchen on the northeast side of the bookstore), you'll find our next artifact.

advertisem*nt

On the table to your right when entering the kitchen, you'll find the Abandon Zone Note waiting to be picked up.

Artifact 34: Applicant Checklist

This note is found beneath the stairs on your right when entering the bookstore. If you look below the stairs, you'll find a shelving unit.

On the shelving unit is the Applicant Checklist. Grab it to add it to our collection.

Firefly Pendant 11: Risk

Look in the alley accessible through the windows on the west side of the bookstore's bottom floor. You'll see an overturned display cabinet out here.

Behind the display cabinet is Risk's Firefly Pendant. Grab it and add it to our collection.

advertisem*nt

Artifact 35: Traitors Flyer

Return back to the small area we encountered the three Hunters in before entering the bookstore. It's the spot with a covering just outside the entrance.

Look towards the gate you entered the area through and you'll see the Traitors Flyer next to a grey and yellow box with hazard warnings covering it.

Artifact 36: Lost Areas Map

Finally, head up to the second floor and look for the "Rivers Cafe" just next to a burning barrel. The cafe's restroom is to the right of the counter.

The door to the restroom is a shiv door, although this one isn't optional if you want to achieve a 100% completion status.

Use the shiv and loot the room for some scrap, supplements and crafting items, then grab the Lost Areas Map next to the sink.

advertisem*nt

Once you've netted all the collectibles in the near vicinity, head through fire exit to the left of the Rivers Cafe. You'll emerge outside. Follow the path ahead, descending the steel stairs and crossing an area with two soldiers hung from a street lamp. Ellie will comment on the disturbing sight. Round the corner next to the lamp and ascend the metal steps in front of you.

When you reach the top, drop down onto the truck below the steps and then down to the floor. You'll find some supplements in the trash next to the truck (probably shouldn't grab them but Joel's just built different I guess). Round the corner of the alleyway and head into the street at the end of the passage.

A cutscene will initiate, as Joel and Ellie crouch behind a taxi as some Hunters appear up ahead. Once the scene's over, don't head towards where the hunters were stood just yet. Turn around and walk towards the graffiti sign reading "death for freedom". You'll find some scrap on the left side of this area and some resources to the right.

Optional Conversation 17: Waist Size

As you're exploring this section, the next Optional Conversation will trigger, as Ellie looks at a photograph of a model in the window of a clothes shop.

Ellie will comment on the model's size, initiating the conversation. Trigger it and Joel will talk about the attitude towards weight loss in the pre-outbreak world.

advertisem*nt

Ellie's Jokes 03

With the Optional Conversation completed, wait in this area for a few seconds. Ellie will eventually pull out the joke book for a third round of terrible puns.

Hit TRIANGLE to cue the onslaught and sit through the cringe. You want 100%? This is the price. Is it worth it? Probably not.

Artifact 37: Mother's Note

After the jokes are finally through, look for a door with a red X through it. It's to the left of the yellow can Joel hid behind in the recent cutscene.

This door is a Shiv Door and another one we'll have to open to hit 100%. Once you're inside, you'll find plenty to loot, including arrows, revolver ammo, scrap and more.

On an armchair near the entrance, you'll also find the Mother's Note, which tells a tragic tale. Joel will comment on it and then you'll have officially marked off another artifact.

advertisem*nt

With the jokes done and the shiv door opened, head towards where we saw the hunters in the cutscene. To get up to where the hunters were, we'll have to get Ellie up to the truck. When you're ready, dive into the pool of water ahead and swim north until you find a wooden palette behind the trucks. Grab it and bring it back to Ellie. She'll jump onto the palette. Now, bring it to the truck the hunters were standing on.

Ellie will hop up and place a wooden plank between the truck the hunters were on and a second truck to the left. We now just have to reach the top of the truck on the left-hand side and climb over. Swim through the doors at the back of the truck on the left and use the side door to enter an abandoned coffee shop.

We can just hop up onto the truck from here via the small area with the counter, but let's first investigate the upper floor of the coffee shop. We can reach it by swimming through the submerged archway at the back of the store.

Artifact 38: Stash Note

Climb the stairs to the second floor and you'll find yourself on a walkway overlooking the counter. Follow the walkway around and you'll find a shiv, some supplements and the Stash Note.

Grab the Stash Note, have a read and then throw it in your backpack. That's another artifact for the collection.

Return to the bottom floor, climb the truck and cross to the other side. Push ahead and you'll see the entrance to the hotel. Drop through the window to begin the second segment of the chapter.

advertisem*nt

Hotel Lobby

You'll land in the Hotel Lobby, which is more of a swamp than a fancy five-star accommodation these days.

There's a lot going on in this lobby, including a safe behind check-in to your right. We'll come back to the safe in a little bit. First, let's look around.

Optional Conversation 18: "I Miss Coffee"

After arriving at the hotel, take a left and follow the path until you see a bar with a large bronze coffee machine behind it. As you approach the coffee machine, an Optional Conversation prompt will appear.

Click it to hear Joel discuss how much he misses coffee.

It's worth noting that this Optional Conversation prompt is replaced by a Point of Interest prompt in The Last of Us: Part I Remake. Make sure you tick it off the list regardless.

After you've investigated the machine, grab the ladder opposite the bar and carry it left. Prop it against the wall below the broken railing on the floor above. You can now access floor two.

advertisem*nt

Ellie's Jokes 04

It's that time again. Once you reach the top of the ladder, wait for a minute. Before long Ellie will whack out that joke book for a fourth time and begin berating you with brutal puns.

Endure it, stand there and wait for it to end. No one said reaching 100% is easy. What did you expect? No adversity? Sit there and enjoy Ellie's jokes. No platinum for you otherwise.

Artifact 39: Note to Staff

After reaching the top of the ladder and arriving at the second floor, look right to find a small ledge you can shimmy over to reach the other side.

Make your way across the ledge and proceed up the path ahead. In a nearby suitcase, you'll find the Note to Staff. This note contains the code for the safe downstairs: 22-10-56.

Pittsburgh Safe

With the code found on the Note to Staff above, let's return to the safe and input the code. It's found behind the check-in counter.

advertisem*nt

Once you reach it, input 22-10-56 to access the door. Inside you'll find ammo, resources and another collectible.

Training Manual 3: Shiv Reinforcement

Inside the Pittsburgh Safe mentioned above, we'll find ammo, resources and a very special collectible.

The collectible in question is the Shiv Reinforcement Training Manual. Grab it and you'll learn how to get more uses out of shivs before they break.

With the safe opened, return to the ladder, climb to floor 2 and take a left, following the path upstairs until you reach a room with a window. Hop through and be prepared for a rough encounter.

Clash in The Hotel Corridors

Through the window, you'll find yourself on the roof. Cross over to the window on the opposite side of the area. You'll hear hunters inside. Sneak to cover and use listen to place your enemies.

advertisem*nt

There are a few ways to go about this scenario. As usual, the most practical tactic is luring foes into each of the hotel's rooms and taking them down silently. There are around seven hunters to contend with here, so that shouldn't be too difficult if you're careful.

However, the hotel corridors themselves are a maze, and it's likely you'll stumble into an enemy as you're exploring. If that happens, use the maze-like structure to break contact and re-enter stealth. Play it smart and you'll bring your enemies down in no time.

Once they're done, go to room 204 and head out onto the roof outside the set of double doors. Enter the window on the left side of the area and scale the debris to the next floor of the hotel. Remember this area as we'll be coming back after we defeat a group of enemies nearby.

The tactic for this next section is identical to the last. We'll be taking on eight enemies throughout this next floor of the hotel, with the idea again being to lure them into rooms to silently finish them off. Make sure to use the bow to take down foes silently. After you're done, loot all the resources, scrap and ammo you can find.

Optional Conversation 19: "The Easy Way Out"

Remember the route we took to get here, scaling up the debris and heading through the bathroom? Return to the bathroom (it's found in room 304) and look in the bathtub.

You'll see two skeletons sitting inside the tub. Ellie will claim they took "the easy way out", but Joel will disagree, telling Ellie it's the hardest decision a person has to make.

advertisem*nt

Once the pair have talked about the skeletons, look for the stairs leading to the next floor. If you follow the signs in the area to the elevators, you should come across the staircase. Ascend the steps and then interact with the elevator that's slightly ajar.

Following a QTE, Joel will force the doors open. Climb inside and use the ladder. You'll reach the service hatch of the elevator, allowing you to climb above it. Reach the small ledge in front of you and shimmy to the other elevator, dropping onto it when you're positioned above it.

Once you land, head towards the open elevator doors and hit TRIANGLE to boost Ellie up. Unfortunately, things won't go exactly to plan, with Joel being sent cascading down into a pool of water below.

Hotel Basem*nt

Once you regain control, swim around the debris and vault over a nearby locker to reach another pool of water. Follow the path until you reach a dead end, then dive beneath the surface and swim down.

Beneath the water, swim through the doorway on your right and continue following the passage, being quick so you don't run out of air. When you resurface you'll be facing a sign reading West Tower B1. Before you head through the door, look to your right to find a side room. Head inside and you'll find some shotgun ammo, a shiv and some crafting resources.

advertisem*nt

When you're done, return to the pool of water in the centre of the room and dive under, looking for a submerged doorway directly beneath where we saw the West Tower B1 sign. Swim through the passage, taking a right through a side door when available. When you resurface, you'll be in a small room with some lockers.

Exit the room and follow the path. Joel will eventually enter an area with spores, putting on his gas mask. Keep following the crumbling passage, ducking beneath the rubble and emerging on the other side. In the tunnel ahead, a flood of rats will run towards Joel. Loot the rooms to your right and left but don't power up the generator you find through the path on the right just yet. You'll find a ton of ammo and supplies... almost like we'll need them very soon...

Head upstairs using either path and then loot the laundry room north of you. When you're done, head west. You'll find a corridor that's clearly been privy to some super stylish Cordyceps aesthetic changes. At the end of this corridor we'll find a locked door that requires a key card to be opened.

After discovering this, we'll be joined by some skittish new friends. This is our first run-in with Stalkers; a type of infected that uses stealth to get the drop on us. These guys are creepy, fast and can give you the fright of your life if you aren't tracking their location. The best way to take Stalkers down is to find a long corridor with few entrances, then back yourself up against a wall and wait for them to attack.

Use melee weapons if you can't get the timing down to land a headshot. They'll likely be able to move away from hand-to-hand melee, but melee weapons are incredibly effective. You'll be fighting five in this section. Once they're dead, head up the corridor and take a right. Loot the cupboards nearby and then push on down the path until you find a security room.

Artifact 40: Hotel Keycard

Loot the security room for anything you can find and then head to the central table. You'll find the Hotel Keycard on the central table.

advertisem*nt

Not only is this the key to leaving this place, it's also another artifact. That's Artifact 40 for those keeping count.

With the keycard nabbed, head downstairs and turn on the generator we found earlier. For those who forgot, it's down the ramp in the kitchen area on the northeast side of the second floor. Unfortunately, that will conjure some unwanted attention. Namely, we'll have to fight a bloater and three more stalkers.

As soon as the bloater drops down into the area, run upstairs. We're going to take the stalkers out first. Find all three of these creepy runner-variants and take them down, using melee weapons and your pistol. With them finished, we just have to focus on the bloater.

The best idea here is to get into a loop, as the corridors are tight and if the bloater catches us it's game over. Starting from the room with the generator, pop off shots at the bloater and then run upstairs and wait for him to enter the long corridor outside the laundry room.

Once he's arrived, pop off more shots until he gets close, then run to the keycard door and shoot him some more. Finally, drop down from the ledge opposite the keycard door and below to the ground floor, popping off more shots as the bloater falls to join you. Rinse and repeat the cycle until the bloater's dead.

Once he's dead, head upstairs and use the keycard to exit. You'll enter a stairwell. Ascend it and you'll reach a blue door. On the other side, you'll find a further four doors. The one on the right leads to a bathroom with some arrows and revolver ammo. The one on the left leads to an office with some scrap, supplements and a workbench. And the one opposite the workbench room houses some scrap. Loot all three and customize your weapons at the workbench.

advertisem*nt

When you're ready, head for the fourth door down the set of steps. You'll enter a kitchen, immediately hearing a clicker nearby. Before you can take it down, two hunters will enter, dispatching the clicker. When they're done talking, they'll split up. Although we can't see the other two, there are a total of four hunters in this combat encounter.

Silently take down the one ahead of you when his buddy begins to walk away. Wait for the second hunter to return to the kitchen and then take him down too. Finish the final two hunters and then loot the area for stray supplies.

When you're ready to move on, head to the seating around and look for a ladder on the floor by a puddle of water. Pick it up and then it beneath the broken balcony directly above where you found it.

Climb up the ladder and then Joel will be attacked by a hunter, being knocked into the puddle of water below. Your assailant will attempt to drown you. Mash SQUARE to try to escape. After a long QTE segment, Ellie will rescue you, cueing a cutscene. When you regain control, scale the ladder to the top and follow the path into the next room. Look for a door on the left that takes you back into the dining area.

Comic 03: Accretion

When returning to the second floor of the dining area, shimmy across the broken stairs to reach the bar on the opposite side. Loot everything from the bar and then head to the coffee tables opposite it.

On one table you'll find some scrap and on the other you'll find a Comic called Accretion. Looks like we have a gift to give Ellie to say thanks for saving our life.

advertisem*nt

Return to Ellie when you're ready and then follow the path until you find a broken staircase. Drop down to the floor below. On your left, you'll find two sets of bathrooms. In the men's, you'll find discover a shiv in the cubicle on the right-hand side.

Firefly Pendant 12: Reed

Head into the women's bathroom next. In the cubicle at the back you'll find Reed's Firefly Pendant directly to the left of the toilet.

Pick it up and have a look at it before adding it to our collection. Make sure to grab the alcohol and bandages from the sink on the way out.

Training Manual 04: Melee Knots

After leaving the women's bathroom, return to the path and follow it. After you pass the elevators, you'll come across a table on your left.

The Melee Knots Training Manual can be found on this table. Have a read. Our Modified Melee weapons will now last one hit longer.

advertisem*nt

Proceed past the training manual and vault the table ahead. You'll come to a door at the end of the corridor. Enter it and you'll arrive in a Ball Room.

Optional Conversation 20: Palm Tree Backdrop

After entering the hall, take a right and look for a backdrop with palm trees on it. After a few seconds, Ellie will walk over and inspect it.

An Optional Conversation prompt will pop up. This one's a little different than usual in that it offers three prompts throughout a single conversation. Initiate all three. Joel and Ellie will talk about the backdrop and then the argument they had earlier.

Once you're done chatting with Ellie, loot the resources to the left of the backdrop and head towards the piano. Play the piano first (not because you have to but because it's essential in any game where there's a piano interaction), then head to the side of it and hit TRIANGLE to push it. When it's in place, use the piano to reach the walkway above.

Push ahead and through the door north of you. You'll enter a bar. Walk through the doors northwest of the entrance. Vault over the balcony and onto the scaffolding to cue a cutscene.

advertisem*nt

Financial District

In the cutscene, we'll establish there are some very nasty men below us that we'll have to take out to get past. Luckily, we have backup. Joel finally trusts Ellie enough to give her a gun, meaning if we get into a shootout, our eye in the sky is going to gun down some enemies for us.

Once we regain control, we'll be faced with a large group of hunters. five will be stood directly in front of us admiring a hanging body. It's up to you here, but if you want to go for the loud approach, you can take them all out in one swoop with a nail bomb, then use the barricade for cover as you finish off the remaining members of the crew. Ellie will back you, making the firefight a little less intense.

However, we can also do this in stealth. Wait for a hunter to run over and frantically tell his allies about our handiwork, and then pick off the hunters as they begin to search the area. There's lots of cover throughout the combat arena, so lure victims into secluded spots and choke them out without being seen. Use the bow to finish hunters off silently as well.

There are a lot of enemies spread throughout the central section and the buildings on the left and right. Use the buildings to stay hidden until the majority of the enemies are dead. If you are spotted, run away and regain stealth before returning to your objective.

After taking the first seven soldiers out stealthily, a further six will enter the area from the northern gate. Take them down to cue a cutscene. After it's done, Ellie will be armed and we'll be ready to find ourselves some more collectibles.

Artifact 41: Fireflies Note

The first artifact we'll want to track down is located in a freezer in the back of Don Fiocchi's Sandwiches. It's a shop in the northeast corner of the area. Head over to the shop and look for a door behind the counter. In the back room, you'll see the freezer to your left.

advertisem*nt

Inside, the Fireflies Note can be found on the floor to your right. Pick it up to add it to our collection.

Optional Conversation 21: Body Hanging From Tree

Now, this next Optional Conversation is an absolute nightmare to trigger. You'll want to walk over to the hanging dead body the group of Hunters were speaking next to before the combat encounter. It's directly to the left of where you started the combat encounter.

The only problem is that the prompt can simply not appear. If it won't come up, keep reloading the last checkpoint until it does. If it persists long enough, quit out to the menu, reload the game and try again. It's rough but it should work eventually.

With both collectibles grabbed, head north and through the shutter on your left. After a short scene where Ellie props the gate open with a cart, head under the shutter. Once it drops down, grab the scrap on your right and the resources on your left, then move the cart towards the gap in the wall opposite the shutter.

Once it's positioned, climb over into the next room. On your right, you'll see a workbench, so make any upgrades you want. When you're done, vault the table in front of you and you'll cue a brutal cutscene. After it's finished, head into the stairwell on your left and ascend the steps.

You'll enter a corridor outside an office. Two hunters will approach you from the other side of the corridor. We have two options here: kill the hunters or hide from them. If you're taking them out, wait for them to split up and then take out the one in the hallway closest to you. Once he's down, circle around into the office ahead and eliminate the second hunter.

Artifact 42: Final Attack Note

Enter the office at the back of the area and head left until you reach a broken window. Below the window, you'll find the Final Attack Note.

It's just next to a desk. Pick it up, give it a quick read and then add it to your collection. That's another artifact down.

Leave the office, and head west, exiting onto the nearby walkway. Drop down onto the truck below and follow the route until you reach the floor. Continue up the road up ahead until you reach an intersection, then duck behind the roadblocks in front of you. We have the fun task of taking out a bunch of hunters here.

Three of these undesirables will be hiding out in a hidden sniping spot east of us, while a further four will be bunkered down ahead. Before going after the ones at the end of the road, let's stealthily execute the three in the sniper's nest. Make your way to the door next to the police car ahead, being careful of the tripwire leading from the car's bonnet to the nearby wall.

On your way upstairs, you should see one of the hunters walk into the next room. Use a distraction to lure him back into the corridor and take him down. Next, take down the two hunters ahead with your bow. This can be tricky as they're close to one another, although it's manageable by taking out the hunter that's stood closest to the door.

When they're done, your best option is to use the sniper's nest for your own gain. Take out the rifle and pick off the four enemies standing outside. One will likely rush you with a melee weapon, gunning it up the stairs to find you. Take him out with your own melee weapon and return to shooting the other hunters. Once they're all dead, we'll be able to loot freely.

Artifact 43: Mob Attack Note

When in the sniper's nest, look for a study with a computer, desk and water cooler.

Below the desk, you'll find the Mob Attack Note. Read it and then add it to your collection.

Artifact 44: Truck Note

Leave the sniper's nest and head towards the intersection where we took out the final set of hunters. We'll see a few shops accessible via this area, one of which being the Rations Depot (or, as the survivors renamed it, the Irrational Depot... very clever).

Head inside and look on the desk to find the Truck Note. Add it to the collection.

After grabbing the Truck Note, head to the back of the Depot to find a Shiv Door. Inside, you'll come across some supplements, scrap, crafting items and more.

Optional Conversation 22: "Everyone's Got A Family"

After leaving the Ration Depot, you'll see some graffiti on the wall opposite the nearby tank reading "Death For Freedom". Ellie will comment on this, initiating an Optional Conversation.

Speak with her about the survivors that were killed here to tick off another optional conversation.

Although this is like any other Optional Conversation, it seems in some versions of the game, it doesn't count towards the platinum trophy. Still, it's worth initiating just to be safe.

Once you've initiated the conversation and found all the artifacts in the area, boost Ellie up to the red ladder to the left of the "Death For Freedom" sign. Once she's up, she'll kick the ladder down for Joel, allowing him to climb up. Follow the route until you drop down into an open area.

Optional Conversation 23: Military Prep School

On the right as you land, you'll see the gates to a military prep school. Approach them and Ellie will begin to talk about her experiences in a similar facility.

An Optional Conversation prompt will emerge. You know what to do. Click on the prompt and it'll add to our total.

Optional Conversation 24: Dawn of the Wolf

After checking out the military gates, turn around and look for a billboard sporting a poster for a film called Dawn of the Wolf: Part 2. It's to the right of the alleyway we need to travel down to progress, next to a rusted van.

Ellie will run up to the poster and comment on it, lining up another Optional Conversation. Hit the prompt and listen to the dialogue.

Turret Escape

After you've finished chatting, head into the alleyway to the left of the poster. After a few steps, you'll hear voices, as the hunters begin to converge on your position with the military turret. We'll want to be stealthy here, as the turret is strong. The soundest method to pass this teel behemoth is to first head all the way to the end of the alleyway, taking out the hunter lurking to the left of the garage outside.

Once he's down, head back into the garage and pick off each of the hunters, preferably using the bow if possible. If you don't have the bow, we'll want to rely on distractions. Lure each hunter away from each other and pick them off, using the back corridor if you're almost spotted.

Once all the hunters are down, head out of the garage through the west window. Our goal here is to reach the other side of the road and head through the back door of the building opposite the garage. To do that, we'll want to use the cars, dumpsters and other debris on the street as cover while heading for the other side. The turret is programmed to see you at this point, so wait for a break in its stream of fire and then run for the next bit of cover. Eventually, you'll reach the other side.

Head through the door and take cover behind the nearby shelves. You'll find two hunters in here who will attempt to flank you while the turret's still firing. They'll approach from the west, so find cover and then take them both out quickly.

Head for the window on the other side of the shop and duck behind the cop car. You'll want to head south here, away from the turret and around the corner. You'll immediately be rushed by another hunter so gun him down and then finish off his friend around the corner ahead. Keep following the route. Eventually, the turret will break through the gate, pinning you down. Enter the nearby side door and catch your breath.

Head up the stairs. You'll come to two offices. The one on the right has some revolver ammo in the desk. Pick it up, then head through the office on the left and out onto the fire escape. The turret will give up now, leaving the area. Cross the boards ahead and then shimmy across the ledge, entering the open window nearby.

When inside, grab any resources you find. There are some supplements by the sink in the bathroom and crafting items in the kitchen. Hop out of the window to the right of the kitchen when you're done and shimmy across the ledge. You'll reach a second open window. Jump through to cue a chaotic meeting with some new allies.

Escape The City

Once the cutscene's over, we'll be in a flat with Sam and Henry. There's some good stuff to grab here, so loot each of the rooms. We'll need supplies for what comes next.

Training Manual 5: Molotov Construction

Head into the apartment's kitchen to find our next Training Manual. It's titled Molotov Construction, so it's not too difficult to guess what it improves.

The manual will allow us to widen the radius of our molotovs, meaning we can set more enemies on fire at once.

When you're ready, reconvene with Ellie, Sam and Henry and head downstairs. When you reach the next floor down, stop and head towards the apartment ahead.

This is a Shiv Door, so if you have a shiv, crack it open. Loot the supplies inside. You should find ammo, supplements, scrap and a lot more, so root around and find every last piece.

Comic 04: Deep Phase

When inside the Shiv Door referenced above, look in the master bedroom. On the desk, you'll find another comic book.

This one is called Deep Phase. Take a look at it and then throw it in the rucksack.

After you're done scoping out the apartment, head to the bottom of the stairs and follow Henry. He'll take you into an abandoned toy store. Watch the cutscene and then follow Henry out of the shop. Three hunters will be chatting up ahead. Wait for them to finish and then take them down, using stealth if possible.

Once they're dead, scale the car on the left-hand side of the area and climb to the rooftop. Two hunters will appear, darting behind cover. Get behind the nearby ventilation system and shoot them both. After they're dead, climb up to where they were and head into the building on your left.

Firefly Pendant 13: Rios

Henry, Sam and Ellie will go through the door on your right. Before we join them, take a left and investigate the nearby bathroom.

In a cubicle at the back of the room, you'll find Rios' Firefly Pendant. Grab it to add it to our collection.

Now, regroup with the others. You'll enter an architecture firm, with Henry shutting the door behind you.

Artifact 45: Trial Note

After entering the firm, head to the set of double doors directly opposite the office's entrance. Inside, you'll find the Trial Note to your right.

Read it and then put it away to add it to your collection.

With the note accounted for, grab the supplements on the kitchen counter and follow Henry into the firm's main office. You'll cue a cutscene. Once it's over, it's time to execute Henry's plan.

The Skeleton Crew

Follow Henry through the firm, descending some steps down to the bottom floor. Henry will tell you to follow his lead, so that's the plan. Stay close behind him for the time being.

Eventually, you'll come up to two hunters warming themselves by a fire. Take out the one on the left, allowing Henry to finish the one on the right. After they're down, head through the doors on the left. You'll emerge outside behind a roadblock.

advertisem*nt

Ahead of you, you'll see a hunter with a spotlight, using the lamp to spot clickers in the distance and take them down with a rifle. Wait for the spotlight to pass and then move up. Keep moving and then head to the left, circling around until you have a sizeable gap between you and the spotlight.

Create a distraction to the right of the spotlight and, when the hunters look away, make a break for the spotlight tower. Take down the hunter at the back of the pack and then turn off the spotlight using the generator at the base of the tower.

In the confusion, now's the time to strike. Hide beneath the walkway below the spotlight; it's just to the left of the generator. Wait for the hunters to jump down and then take them down, using the shotgun for close-range carnage. Clean up the stragglers and then loot the supplies.

When you're ready, head to the central door and press TRIANGLE. Joel and Henry will push through to the other side just as the turret returns to wreak havoc. Follow the path ahead until a hunter appears on top of a nearby truck. Gun him down and then boost Henry up to the ladder on the side of the truck. You'll cue a cutscene.

Once it's over, head to the shutter Ellie is attempting to lift and force it open. After your inside, follow the path and you'll arrive at a pub (one that will be oddly familiar to fans of a certain silver-tongued swashbuckler's third outing...). Four hunters will enter the pub looking for you. Take them down stealthily or shoot them dead and then head into the foyer outside.

Head towards the foyer's front doors and move the cart blocking them out of the way. Once it's gone, you'll be able to use the doors. As you're leaving, the turret will smash through some nearby gates. Sprint for the highway and eventually a short cutscene will play. The chase isn't over yet though. When you regain control, keep running. The next cutscene that cues will end the chapter. Congratulations. You beat Pittsburgh. Now it's time for The Suburbs.
