Really simple to whip up, these scrolls are ready in just under an hour!

Ingredients (makes 16 scrolls)

  • 2 3/4 cups Plain flour
  • 3 TBS Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 2 1/4 tsp Dried instant yeast
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1/4 cup Milk
  • 2 TBS Unsalted butter
  • 1 large Egg
  • FILLING
  • 1/4 cup Unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup Brown sugar
  • 2 TBS Ground cinnamon
  • GLAZE
  • 1 cup Icing sugar
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 2 TBS Milk

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees and turn off after 10 minutes or just before placing rolls in oven.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, the sugar, salt, and yeast together until evenly dispersed. Set aside.
  3. In a small microwavable bowl, heat the water, milk, and butter together in the microwave until the butter is melted (about 30-45 seconds). Stir the butter mixture into the flour mixture. Add the egg and knead with hand or with stand mixer for 3-4 minutes or until the dough is no longer sticky. Place in a lightly greased bowl and let rest for about 5 minutes.
  4. After the dough has rested for 5 minutes, roll it out in a 15x9 inch rectangle. Spread the softened butter on top. Mix together the cinnamon and sugar and sprinkle it all over the dough.
  5. Roll up the dough tightly and cut into 16 even pieces. Place in a lightly greased square pan, with room in between each one to allow room to rise, and lightly cover with alfoil.
  6. TURN OFF the oven and place the cinnamon buns in the oven to rise for 20 minutes.
  7. Keep the buns in the oven but remove the foil and turn the oven back on to 190 degrees.
  8. Bake the cinnamon rolls for 15-20 minutes or until golden. Remove from oven
  9. To make glaze, mix the powdered sugar, vanilla and 2 Tablespoons milk together until smooth and lump free. Drizzle over warm rolls.

Notes

If you want a coffee glaze, swap the 2 TBS milk for 2 TBS Coffee (I make a strong white coffee and use that) Or make both and have half and half!

Easy Peasy Vanilla and Cinnamon Scrolls - Real Recipes from Mums (2024)

FAQs

When to frost cinnamon rolls? ›

Frost the cinnamon rolls with about ¼ of the icing when they are still warm. When they're cooled, top with remaining icing.

How long to bake Pillsbury cinnamon rolls? ›

Prep Instructions

HEAT oven to 400°F (or 375°F for nonstick pan). GREASE round cake pan. PLACE rolls in pan, cinnamon topping up. BAKE 13 to 17 minutes or until golden brown.

Should you cool cinnamon rolls before icing? ›

Let Rolls Cool Before Icing

Let the rolls cool for 5 to 10 minutes before icing. If the rolls are too hot, the icing will tragically ooze right off and into the bottom of the pan. A warm roll, however, will let the icing easily spread over the top and also set in place before serving.

How long can frosted cinnamon rolls sit out? ›

Cinnamon rolls have a great shelf live. They stay good at room-temperature for up to 2 days, in the fridge for up to a week, and in the freezer for up to 2 months if stored properly. What is this? Store them in an airtight container or wrap them tightly with plastic wrap.

What is the best pan to cook Pillsbury cinnamon rolls in? ›

Tips from the Pillsbury Kitchens

We found that a 9-inch metal round or square pan works best with this recipe so dough has enough room to expand while baking. For easy clean-up, cut a piece of parchment paper to line the bottom of pan.

Do you have to refrigerate Pillsbury cinnamon rolls after baking? ›

Do you need to refrigerate cinnamon rolls? Unfrosted cinnamon rolls do not need to be refrigerated and will keep best at room temperature. Iced cinnamon rolls, and especially rolls with cream cheese frosting, should be stored in the fridge.

Can you leave frosted cinnamon rolls out overnight? ›

Cover leftover frosted or unfrosted rolls tightly and store at room temperature for up to 2 days or in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

How long does cinnamon roll icing last in the fridge? ›

Frosting for Cinnamon Rolls FAQs

If stored correctly in an airtight container in the fridge, you can expect this frosting to last up to 2 weeks. Can you make Icing for Cinnamon Rolls without milk?

Can you let cinnamon rolls rise overnight on the counter? ›

Instead of letting the rolls rise at room temperature and baking them, you'll cut and arrange the rolls in the baking pan, tightly cover them with plastic wrap, immediately transfer them to the fridge and let them rest overnight. (Do not leave them out at room temperature for any longer than needed.)

How long do you proof frozen cinnamon rolls? ›

Refrigerator thaw (8-16 hours): Prepare rolls as directed in step 1, then thaw in refrigerator for at least 8 hours. Rolls may need to continue to rise at room temperature for 1 to 2 hours if not double in size. Continue to step 3 for baking.
