Se entiende por color de seguridad un color al que se atribuye una significación determinada en relación con al seguridad y salud en el trabajo. En concreto, se utilizan como colores de seguridad solamente el rojo, el verde, el azul y el amarillo (o amarillo anaranjado). Los colores de seguridad podrán formar parte de una señalización de seguridad o constituirla por ellos mismos.

Cuando el color de fondo sobre el que tenga que aplicarse el color de seguridad pueda dificultar la percepción de este último, se utilizará un color de contraste que enmarque o se alterne con el de seguridad, de acuerdo con la siguiente tabla:
